HOUSTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (6-3) is set to take on their second opponent from the Big 12 Conference of the week as they head to Houston to face the University of Houston Cougars at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Mavericks are coming off a tough loss to TCU on Wednesday, where they fell 6-1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez was the only Mav to earn a singles win as she defeated TCU's Helena Narmount 3-6, 6-0, 10-8. The win on Court 4 marks her sixth overall victory in her first year as a Maverick.
Bruna Casasampere also holds six wins in the spring, playing on Courts 5 and 6 throughout dual play. She took a tough loss to TCU but went undefeated in the Mav's previous doubleheader against UTD and Collin College, dropping only two games total.
In doubles action, Casasampere and
Francisca Vergara hold the most season wins at 5-2 on Court 2. They fell in a close match against TCU by two games but went 2-0 against UTD and Collin College. They also earned a strong 6-4 win over SMU.
SCOUTING HOUSTON
The Cougars hold a 1-3 record in the spring season so far. They defeated UL Lafayette and fell to North Texas, UT Rio Grande Valley and Louisiana Tech. The Mavericks lead in the head-to-head record at 5-2. The last time the Mavs lost to the Cougars was in 2006 in Houston. In their most recent meeting in 2022, the Mavericks won 4-3 at the UTA Tennis Center.
