ARLINGTON, Texas – For the fourth week in a row,
Gia Adams was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
The junior guard from Cypress, Texas averaged 18 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Lady Mavs, who split the week in Utah by defeating Southern Utah and falling to Utah Tech.
In the win at Southern Utah, Adams tallied 20 points while pulling down four rebounds, dishing out five assists and having two steals in 34 minutes of action. In the loss at Utah Tech, Adams put up 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, tossed out three assists and had two steals in 36 minutes.
For the season, Adams leads the Lady Mavs in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game. She also averages 3.3 assists per game as well as 3.0 rebounds per contest. She is currently shooting .447 from the field on the year and is the only Lady Mav to average over 30 minutes a game with 31.8 per game.
The Lady Mavs return home for their final homestand of the 2023-24 campaign when they welcome Seattle U and Utah Valley to the College Park Center. UTA takes on the Redhawks of Seattle U on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6 p.m. central time while they host the Wolverines of Utah Valley on Saturday, Mar. 2, at 2 p.m. central time. This will be the second time the Redhawks have visited the CPC and the first time that the Wolverines play in the friendly confines of the home of the Lady Mavs.
