ARLINGTON, Texas – Gia Adams earned her first Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Newcomer of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
A guard from Cypress, Texas, Adams averaged 13 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and two steals for the Lady Mavs, who split a pair of games against Southern Utah and Utah Tech this past week.
In the win against Southern Utah, Adams tallied 14 points, five rebounds and three steals while dishing out a career-high eight assists. In the loss against Utah Tech, Adams put up 12 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and having one steal in 35 mins of action.
The week prior at Grand Canyon, Adams notched her 1000th career point and was honored before the Utah Tech game this past Saturday.
For the season, Adams leads the Lady Mavs in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game. She also averages 3.3 assists per game as well as 2.9 rebounds per contest. She is currently shooting .412 from the field on the year.
The Lady Mavs continue their conference slate when they welcome California Baptist to the College Park Center this Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m.
