Women's Tennis Kick Off WAC Play Against Abilene Christian And Tarleton

ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (10-4) looks to begin Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play against Abilene Christian (1 p.m.) on Friday and Tarleton State (11 a.m.) on Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center.
 
The two matches will mark the first conference matches for the Mavericks this season. They are coming off two home wins over North Texas and UT San Antonio, both at the UTA Tennis Center. They defeated the Mean Green 4-1 and the Roadrunners 4-0.
 
Newcomer Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez holds the most wins for the Mavs between Courts 2, 3 and 4. She is currently on an eight-match winning streak after defeating UTSA's Vittoria Baccino 6-4, 6-1 and moved her record to 11-1.
 
Bruna Casasampere holds the second most wins in the spring with a 9-2 record. She earned her most recent win on Court 6 over UNT's Marina Adati in a dominant straight set victory.
 
In doubles action, Casasampere and Francisca Vergara have been solid on Court 2 as they moved to 9-3. They earned a strong victory over UTSA's Magda Tuells and Ekua Youri 6-4 in their most recent win.
 
SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The Wildcats hold a 3-9 record in the spring season after a recent win over former WAC opponent Sam Houston. The Mavericks currently hold a 1-1 record against the Wildcats after winning 5-2 in their 2023 meeting in Abilene. Their last loss to Abilene Christian was in 1990 in Arlington.
 
SCOUTING TARLETON STATE
The 2023 WAC Tournament runners-up currently hold a 9-2 record in the spring. In their most recent match, they fell 6-1 to UNT. The Mavericks currently hold a 4-0 record over the Texans after their most recent meeting in 2023 in Stephenville.
