ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington track and field teams closed a busy week at the Clyde Hart Classic down in Waco and the Victor Lopez Classic in Houston with several top finishes and multiple personal bests set throughout the two-day two-meet weekend.
VICTOR LOPEZ CLASSIC DAY TWO RECAP
The day started off with the men's 5000m run with three top-10 finishes highlighted by
Rogelio Aguirre who claimed the gold with a personal best of 14:30.55 in his first time running the 5000m this outdoor season.
Josue Granados came in 4th with a time of 14:38.76, a new personal best. Sophomore Andrés Gurrola rounded out the top-10 with a 9th place finish, running an outdoor personal best of 15:07.40.
In the second event of the day,
Isabel Borrego finished 3rd in the women's 5000m run, coming in with a time of 17:29.05.
Winnie Kipsang ran a 2:06.13 800m in her outdoor debut in the event. Her time is the third fastest pace set in women's outdoor program history.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Brian Guevara ran the 5000m for the first time in his collegiate career, finishing with a time of 15:17.98 for an 11th place finish.
- Mathilde Ruud finished 4th in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:16.35.
- In the women's 1500m, Matro Jepkemboi placed 8th with a time of 4:33.94, Emilia Mandl placed 9th with a pace of 4:36.52.
CLYDE HART CLASSIC DAY TWO RECAP
The women's javelin throw kicked off day two of the meet with
Kyha Walton finishing 6th with a throw of 39.00m.
Lucas Van Klaveren placed 2nd in the men's javelin throw with an impressive toss of 60.00m, a new personal best, and now moves him into 68th in the NCAA with that throw.
In the men's high jump,
Calen Jones placed 2nd with a mark of 2.11m,
Miles Jones finished right behind him in 3rd with a 2.06m leap.
In the women's high jump,
McKinley Novacek placed third with a 1.73m leap, surpassing her previous outdoor personal record by nearly 3 inches.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Kaliah Jones leaped 1.68m in the women's high jump, placing 4th in the event.
- Marvin Walford had himself a meet placing 4th in the men's triple jump with a 14.70m mark. Additionally, he recorded an outdoor PR in the long jump with a 7.05m leap.
UP NEXT
The Maverick track and field team will head to Austin for the highly coveted Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas on Mar. 27-30.
