AUSTIN, Texas – Jade Bontke and
Brady Shadrick kicked off the first day of the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays for the UT Arlington track and field teams. Bontke competed in the women's heptathlon while Shadrick participated in the men's decathlon.
On day one, four of the seven events in the heptathlon were completed while five of the 10 were completed in the decathlon.
The heptathlon started with the 100m hurdles, where Bontke placed 6th with a time of 14.24 for 945 points. Next up was the high jump where she placed 12th with a jump of 1.62m for 759 points. In the shot put, Bontke placed 11th with a throw of 11.61m, giving her 635 points. In the final event for the heptathlon on the day, the 200m, Bontke finished strong by placing 3rd with a time of 24.74. The 3rd place finish gave her 911 points to move her point total to 3250, which has her sitting in 7th place overall.
The decathlon began with the 100m dash where Shadrick placed 12th with a time of 11.22 for 812 points. The long jump was next, where Shadrick placed 9th with a leap of 6.59m, giving him 718 points for the round. Up next was the shot put where he finished 11th with a throw of 12.70m to give him 649 points. Shadrick's best showing of the day came in the high jump, where he finished 5th with a jump of 1.90m and 714 points. Day one of the decathlon ended with the 400m run where Shadrick placed 9th with a time of 49.92, a new personal record. Shadrick earned 818 points for his performance in the 400m, moving his point total to 3711 which has him currently sitting in 9th place overall.
Day two of the Texas Relays is on tap for Thursday, Mar. 28, with a full day of events starting off with the decathlon 110m hurdles at 10 a.m.

Brandon Berger. "Shadrick performed really well and has a shot to finish the decathlon in a good position. Bontke has done quite well too with some season bests in the 100m hurdles and the 200m. Both have performed quite consistently and I'm excited to see where they finish tomorrow."
