EDINBURG, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (11-6, 1-2 WAC) is set to continue their series of conference road matches on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against UT Rio Grande Valley at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center.
The Mavericks picked up their first WAC win on Thursday in Nacogdoches, Texas, where they swept Stephen F. Austin 7-0. They have taken two conference losses, their first to Abilene Christian and their second to Tarleton State.
Sarina Reinertsen holds the most overall wins on the season as she improved her record to 18-9 on Thursday with her win over the Lumberjacks. She also defeated Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo for another conference win as she sits at 2-1 in WAC play.
With 17 overall wins,
Bruna Casasampere has also been a strong singles force for the Mavs. She has won her two most recent matches in conference play as she took down opponents from Tarleton and SFA both in straight sets.
In her conference play debut,
Ioana Dumitrescu secured a strong win from the Court 6 position. She advanced to 2-0 in dual match play after she defeated SFA's Avery Kinsey 6-1, 6-0.
Casasampere has also been a solid doubles component for the Mavs, as she and partner
Francisca Vergara hold the most wins on the team as the primary Court 2 duo. After Thursday's win, they moved to 3-0 in WAC play and 12-3 overall.
SCOUTING UTRGV
The Vaqueros hold an 8-9 record in the season and are 0-3 in WAC matches. They fell 6-1 to Tarleton, 4-3 to Abilene Christian and 7-0 to No. 69 Grand Canyon. The Mavericks currently hold an 11-1 record over the Vaqueros after their most recent meeting. In 2023, the Mavs earned a 4-3 victory at the UTA Tennis Center. Their only loss to the Vaqueros was in 1990.
