ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (8-4) looks to return to the UTA Tennis Center on Wednesday to take on North Texas at 2 p.m.
The Mavericks concluded a series of four road matches with their most recent weekend in Oklahoma. They fell 6-1 to TCU before defeating Houston 4-1, then traveled to Tulsa where they took down Oral Roberts 7-0 and lost 4-2 to Tulsa.
The Mavericks did not drop a set to Oral Roberts in singles action, sweeping all six lines after winning the doubles point.
Ioana Dumitrescu made her season debut against the Golden Eagles, earning a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cassie Cervantes.
Despite dropping only two games in doubles action, the Mavs fell short to Tulsa in their second match of the weekend. A 6-0 win gave
Bruna Casasampere and
Francisca Vergara their eighth doubles victory of the season, while
Ana Paula Jimenez and
Sarina Reinertsen earned their seventh.
Newcomer
Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez has been impressive in singles action, as she pushed her winning streak to six with her win over Tulsa. Between Courts 2, 3 and 4 she holds the most wins on the team for the spring. Notably, she defeated TCU's Helena Narmount 3-6, 6-0, 10-8 as she remains undefeated on the road.
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
The Mean Green hold a 8-5 record on the season. Their most recent win was over No. 70 UTSA 4-1 in Denton. They have also lost to UTA's fellow WAC opponent No. 62 Grand Canyon 4-0. The Mavericks currently hold a 14-11 record over the Mean Green after their last meeting in 2023. The Mavs have won the last three matches, with the most recent 4-1 win in Denton. The last time they lost was in 2019, 4-2 at the UTA Tennis Center.
