ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams completed another busy weekend with multiple new school records, countless top finishes and a myriad of personal records.
The final day of the two-meet weekend started off in Azusa, California at 9:30 a.m. with the running of the men's 5000m run at the conclusion of the Bryan Clay Invitational which featured
Josue Granados in a crowded field. Granados would go on to have his second-best finish of the season in the 5000m and placing near the top half in a race that showcased 90 runners.
The team would not compete in Azusa again until after dark.
Jumping over to Norman, Oklahoma where the men's 4x100m relay team kicked off the final day of the John Jacobs Invitational at 11:15 a.m. The team consisting of
Robert Griffin,
Khalid Mendez,
Adam Herrera and
DaVontay Kennedy claimed second place after running a time of 41.22.
Kaliah Jones followed that performance at noon in the women's high jump where she had a masterful performance to claim the top spot at the podium. Her jump of 1.75m moved her into the top spot of the WAC leaderboards as well as putting her into a tie for 29th in the NCAA Div. I west outdoor qualifying list.
McKinley Novacek finished 5th with a jump of 1.65m, tying her second-best jump of the outdoor season.
In the women's 100m dash,
Madison Pippins secured the top finish after matching her outdoor personal best of 11.49. Pippins still sits atop the WAC leaderboards and in the top 20 of the NCAA Div. I west outdoor qualifying list.
Scott Frazier placed 3rd in the men's pole vault where he had the second-best mark of his collegiate career, a vault of 5.05m. This comes on the heels of his personal record that he set last weekend in College Station. He still has the 3rd best mark in the WAC.
In the men's triple jump,
Marvin Walford grabbed the top spot at the podium after a season's best leap of 15.17m. With that mark, this moves Walford into 3rd on the WAC leaderboards while also moving him into the top 60 on the NCAA Div. I outdoor qualifying list. The jump is the fourth best jump of his collegiate career.
Zaire Moore won gold in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.47. Just shy of besting her outdoor personal best, the sophomore finished with her second-best time of the season and the third best of her young collegiate career. Moore remains in 2nd on the WAC leaderboards.
Hopping back over to the campus of Azusa Pacific University out west for the women's 1500m run,
Winnie Kipsang finished in the top half in a field of over 100 runners. Her time of 4:29.25 is a new personal best and moves her into the top spot in the WAC standings.
All in all over the weekend, the Mavs broke two school records while claiming seven top finishes amongst a slew of personal records.
