MBB: Mavs Secure Much-Needed WAC Victory Over Seattle U

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (8-11, 1-4 WAC) picked up a 65-56 win over Seattle U (8-11, 3-2 WAC) at the College Park Center on Thursday night. Four Mavs were in double figures and UTA never trailed in a much-needed win to get back on track. Guard Jaden Wells led the way with 14 points, while forward Lance Ware posted his second straight double-double of the season (12 points, 10 rebounds and added three blocks) and point guard Brody Robinson did a little bit of everything with seven points, nine assists and 10 rebounds in the win.

"First of all I'm just proud of my guys for how they came out and fought," head coach KT Turner said following the win. "They've been through a tough couple of weeks, some tough practices, some tough film sessions and I'm just proud of them for how they responded and bounced back. They've always been connected – they need to stay that way. I felt like we jumped out on them tonight to start the game and then they threw some punches at us and I felt like we responded again. I'm just happy for our guys for that and I'm just proud of them tonight."

The Mavs blitzed the Redhawks right out of the gate, opening the game on a 17-3 run that was capped off by a pair of UTA three-pointers from Robinson and Wells. Seattle U then responded with a 13-3 run of its own to cut the lead to 20-16.

The Mavericks then rebuilt their lead thanks to another big run, this time 16-4. The Mavs were a scorching 10-of-18 from deep in the first half, as guards Brandyn Talbot (a pair) and Darius Burford knocked down triples during the run that led to a 40-24 halftime advantage. Burford finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and an assist in the win.

UTA took its largest lead of the night on a Raysean Seamster acrobatic finish in the paint, pushing it to 47-30. The Redhawks had one more massive run in them, however, tying the game at 50 apiece on a 20-3 run.

The Mavs took the punch and hit right back with a 10-0 run fueled by a trio of three-pointers, as Burford and Wells traded corner triples and Wells buried a deep three as the shot clock wound down. UTA took a 10-point lead and held on for its first WAC win of the season, 65-56.

The double-double for Ware was his fifth of the season, while Seamster scored in double figures for a team-best 15th time in 19 games, and for the seventh consecutive game. Robinson's 10 boards and nine assists were both career highs for the Houston native.
