MBB: Mavericks Fall at Utah Tech Thursday Night

ST. GEORGE, Utah – UT Arlington men's basketball (7-9, 0-2 WAC) fell 74-62 on the road Thursday night at Utah Tech (5-11, 1-0 WAC). Three Mavs were in double figures, led by guard Jaden Wells, who finished with a team-high 14 off the bench.

"I just feel like they came out prepared and ready," head coach KT Turner said following the loss. "They brought the fight to us – they did a good job. They shot the ball well, there were a couple 50/50 balls, rebounds we should have got that we didn't. Once we got behind, we were just fighting to get back into the game. We had a chance late in the game, three, four minutes left and had it down to eight, but just didn't take care of business. I tip my hat to them, they played a great game."

The Mavericks tried to withstand the hot-shooting Trailblazers, who went 9-of-12 from deep in the opening half. Conversely, UTA shot an uncharacteristic 33.3% from the floor, including 4-of-18 from downtown in the first half.

Forward Raysean Seamster had nine of his 11 points in the first half, trying to keep the Mavs within striking distance. The junior finished with six rebounds and a steal and UTA trailed 40-27 at the break.

Wells scored eight quick points to open the second half and UTA eventually got as close as eight on a couple of occasions, including inside the final two minutes, however they could not get any closer.

UTA finished 37.9% from the field and were 6-of-27 from three-point range. Guard Brody Robinson was the third Maverick in double figures, posting 10 points, three boards and three assists.

The Mavs remain in the Beehive State when they travel to Cedar City, Utah, to do battle with Southern Utah (8-8, 0-2 WAC) on Saturday, Jan. 11. That game tips off at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+, and on the radio on the Varsity App, 102.5 FM and KTNO 620 AM with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours. The Thunderbirds dropped a home game to Tarleton State 74-66 on Thursday night.
