STILLWATER, Okla. --Though they had plenty of opportunities, UT Arlington had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Mavericks on base in a 10-4 setback at the hands of the No. 19Â Oklahoma State Cowboys on Monday.
Sophomore Nicholas Robb (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound for UT Arlington (2-3). Senior Rhys Stevens was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
In the batter's box, the Mavericks were paced by senior Tate Bethel, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Junior Xavier Melendez furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk. Sophomore Xander McAfee also helped out for UT Arlington, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mavericks got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. UT Arlington scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Bethel.
The Cowboys then rallied to score eight runs and take an 8-3 lead before the Mavericks got back on the board in the sixth. Senior Tyce Armstrong came across to score the lone run of the inning for UT Arlington, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Cowboys. The Mavericks were unable to get any closer, as Oklahoma State added two runs to their tally on the way to a 10-4 final.
