ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball graduate transfer forward/center Lance Ware was named Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week, presented by University Credit Union, the league office announced Monday. It marks the third time this season that Ware has earned WAC honors.
Ware continued his incredible run of form for the Mavericks in yet another 2-0 week for UTA. Ware averaged 18.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.5 bpg over the pair of wins, which gives the Mavs four straight league victories.
Against Southern Utah, Ware finished with a career-high-tying 26 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in a 70-68 win for the Mavs. Ware's previous game with 26 came in his UTA debut against Murray State on Nov. 26.
The New Jersey native then turned in another strong performance in the Mavs' 73-71 win over Utah Tech. He had 10 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist. It marked Wade's seventh double-double this season, and fourth in his last five games.
Ware is averaging a team-high 14.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg, and 1.8 bpg, 1.5 spg and 1.4 spg in 17 appearances for the Mavs in 2024-25, all starts. His 49 offensive rebounds also lead the team and ranks third in the WAC entering league play on Thursday.
