ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (2-2) returns to action when they welcome Grand Canyon (1-3) to the UTA Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 9, with play beginning at 10 a.m.
While the two are Western Athletic Conference foes, the match will not go towards any conference standings but only the overall record.
The Mavericks are coming off back-to-back wins in their home opener a week ago when they defeated Cowley 4-1 and Dallas Baptist 4-1.
Ana Paula Jimenez picked up two wins from Court 1 in the double header sweep last Saturday while also picking up two wins in doubles play while teamed up with
Ioana Dumitrescu. Dumitrescu also picked up two wins last Saturday in singles play, both coming from Court 4.
Mialy Ranaivo and
Nika Novikova each picked up a victory in singles play last Saturday, Ranaivo on Court 2 and Novikova on Court 5.
SCOUTING GRAND CANYON
The Lopes hold a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series and are currently riding a two-match streak in the series. Grand Canyon is 2-1 in Arlington. The Lopes come in holding a 2-3 record in the early going of the spring 2025 season and are coming off a 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin. Away from Phoenix, the Lopes hold a 1-1 record.
