ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (6-5) return to the courts after a lengthy break away from competition as they prepare for the upcoming conference tournament with two Western Athletic Conference foes in Abilene Christian and Tarleton State over the weekend at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks host the Wildcats on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. CT while they host the Texans on Sunday, March 30, at 11 a.m. CT to wrap up the month of March.
Last time out, the Mavs fell to ACU 4-1 in Abilene with
Maria Lucia Araoz-Gosn picking up UTA's lone match in singles play from Court 6 against the Wildcats.
Ana Paula Jimenez leads the way for UTA, holding steady with a perfect 4-0 dual match record, all coming on Court 1.
Ioana Dumitrescu has the most singles victories for the Mavs with five, holding a 5-6 record, all coming from Court 4. Winners of their last two and leading the way in doubles action for the Mavs, the duo of
Mialy Ranaivo and
Valeriia Ivanovskaia boast a 5-3 doubles record, all coming from Court 1. The tandem of Jimenez and Dumitrescu have been steady for the Mavs in doubles action, holding a 4-4 overall record, all coming from Court 2.
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Mavs and the Wildcats with UTA trailing 1-3 in the series and have dropped the last two in the series including the match earlier this season. The Mavs are 0-2 versus ACU at the UTA Tennis Center.
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Mavs and the Texans with UTA holding a 4-2 edge in the series. UTA has dropped the last two meeting which includes a semifinals loss in last year's WAC Tournament. The Mavs hold a 3-1 record at the UTA Tennis Center versus the Texans.
SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
ACU enters with a 3-10 record and are winners their last time out which happened to be against the Mavs. Away from Abilene, the Wildcats hold a 1-5 record with their lone win coming at Incarnate Word.
SCOUTING TARLETON STATE
The Texans enter the match with an impressive 11-3 record while riding a seven-match win streak before their match against North Texas on Saturday leading up to their Sunday bout with the Mavs. Away from Stephenville, the Texans are 5-3.
