DENTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (4-4) return to action when they make the short trip north to Denton to take on the Mean Green of North Texas (5-6) on Wednesday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. from the Waranch Tennis Complex.
The Mavericks return to the courts for their first match since falling to No. 53 TCU at home last Wednesday, Feb. 26, when they fell 4-0 to the Horned Frogs despite strong showings in doubles play from the team of
Ioana Dumitrescu and
Ana Paula Jimenez who were up 5-4 before the match went unfinished due to TCU securing the doubles point. Jimenez and
Mialy Ranaivo showed solid outings in singles play with both matches going into the decisive third set with Jimenez up 2-1 in the third set and Ranaivo tied 5-5 in the third set.
This will be the Mavs first match of March and are coming off the month of February where they were on fire, going 4-2 for the month.
Jimenez leads the way for UTA, holding steady with a 3-0 dual match record, all coming on Court 1. The tandem of Jimenez and Dumitrescu have been steady for the Mavs in doubles action, boasting a 4-1 overall record, all coming from Court 2.
This will be the 27th overall meeting between the metroplex foes, with UTA holding the slight edge 15-11 over UNT. The Mavs have taken the last four matchups in the series and are 4-1 in their last five matches and 6-4 in the last 10 matches in the series. Away from Arlington, the Mavs are one game above five hundred with a 7-6 road record against UNT. This will be the 11th straight season the two have meet during the regular season going back to 2014, the two did not play in 2020 due to the season being canceled among the Covid-19 pandemic.
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
North Texas enters the match carrying a 5-6 overall record and are currently on a three-match skid right now. They fell to No. 68 UTSA 4-3 their last time out on March 1. Stanislava Shulzhenko leads the Mean Green, holding a 6-2 record in singles play with the majority coming at Court 3.
