Mavs Head to Spokane for WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – The UT Arlington track & field teams close out the indoor season this weekend as they travel to Spokane, Washington, for the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at The Podium. The two-day event is slated for Friday, Feb. 27 and concludes Saturday, Feb. 28.

Both men and women were selected to finish third in the WAC Indoor Track & Field Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday's competition will begin at 11 a.m. CT, with combined events in the morning, including the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon. Field events (long jump, pole vault and weight throw) will begin at 3:30 p.m. Running events on Friday will start at 4:50 p.m. The first day of competition is scheduled to end around 9 p.m., with the women's DMR.

Competition on Saturday will resume combined events at 11 a.m. Saturday's field events (high jump, shot put and triple jump) will begin at 12:15 p.m., while the running events will start around 4:32 p.m. with the men's mile race. The men's and women's 4x400-meter relays will close out the championships and will not start until all field events have concluded. The championships are scheduled to finish around 8:15 p.m. with the awards ceremony.

MAVS TO WATCH
  • Junior Alexis Cain ranks third in the WAC in the women's 200m with a time of 24.29 and fourth in the women's 400 (55.37).
  • Senior Daniel Armstrong (1:49.72) and Junior Emilia Mandl (2:09.23) both ranks first in the WAC in the 800m. Armstrong has a first-place finish under his belt in the event earlier this season at the Arkansas Invitational, while Mandl has three top-three finishes this season including two first-place marks.
  • Reigning Women's WAC Freshman of the Year and NCAA cross country qualifier, Dorcas Jepkosgei ranks second in the women's mile (4:49.90), just under one second of the first-place mark in the conference. She also ranks fourth in the women's 3000m (9:35.26)
  • Senior Zaire Moore ranks second in the women's 60m hurdles.
  • Eliza Lemberga ranks first in the pentathlon with 4,052 points, third in the women's high jump (1.65m) and sixth in women's long jump (5.70m). The junior currently ranks 16th in the NCAA in the pentathlon.
  • In pole vault, Ethan Saenz ranks third (4.85m) and Sophia Allen ranks second (3.75m).
  • Freshmen Arieanna Mcpeak, Abisayo Gbakino, Lucas Cano have made their mark in their collegiate debuts this season. Mcpeak ranks first in the women's triple jump (12.23m) and third in the women's long jump (6.06m), while Gbakino ranks fourth in men's triple jump (14.84m). Cano ranks first in the men's shot put (16.72m).
  • Senior Lucas Villalva ranks second in the men's weight throw (18.44m), while senior Jaalah Puryear tops the women's weight throw (19.29m).
  • In the heptathlon, Christian Coker (5,105 points) and Levi Bontke (5,006 points) rank side-by-side, third and fourth respectively.
