Mavericks Drop Finale to No. 24 UTSA, Claim Series Victory

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UT Arlington scored seven runs in the fifth inning but ultimately fell to No. 24 UTSA, 15–8, in the series finale on Sunday at Roadrunner Field. Despite the loss, the Mavericks secured the weekend series after winning the first two games.

UTA finished with 11 hits and drew seven walks, producing runs in the fifth and sixth innings while going 7-for-20 with runners in scoring position.

UTSA built an early lead with five runs in the second inning and added another in the third to move ahead 6–0 before the Mavericks answered in the fifth.

UT Arlington's offense broke through with a seven-run fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 6–7. The frame featured multiple run-producing plays, including three RBI from Zach Mazoch, two RBI from Caylon Dygert, and additional RBI from Ethan Ho and Austin Phillips.

The Mavericks added another run in the sixth to even the score at 8–8.

UTSA regained control in the bottom half of the sixth with four runs, highlighted by a home run from Diego Diaz and a second home run of the game from Drew Detlefsen. The Roadrunners added four more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to pull away.

Phillips led UTA offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Preston Knott went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Mazoch drove in three runs, and Dygert added two RBI for the Mavericks.
PITCHING PROFILE
  • Ty Zahradnik made the start for UT Arlington, working 2.0 innings while allowing six runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
  • Merek Sears followed with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four to stabilize the game through the middle frames.
  • Zach Evans (0-2) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in 0.1 inning. Jack Barr, Jacob Havern, Nick Perry, and Michael Dobbins combined to finish the game out of the bullpen.
