Mavs in top five after round one of El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. – UT Arlington men's golf is through day one at the El Macero Classic and it was a strong opening round for the Mavericks. UTA finished in a tie for fourth place, carding a 4-over-par 292.

All five Mavericks finished in the top 50 individually and as a team, UTA tied for the second-best score on par 4's at 8-over. 

Leading the way for the Mavericks is the freshman duo of Nicholas Lyman and Arth Sinha. The pair shot even-par 72's and are tied in 11th place. 

Lyman birdied three holes and posted a 1-under 35 on the front nine. Sinha matched Lyman's birdie and par total, recording an even-par 36 on the front and back nine.

Another pair of UTA players are tied going into the second round as well. Ajay Morris and Matthew Broder are placed in a tie for 37th after each turning in a 2-over 74. 

Morris birdied a trio of holes and put up a 1-over 37 on the front and back nine. Broder matched Sinha and Lyman in pars made with 12.  

Michael Chevalier rounded out the Maverick lineup with a 3-over 75. The junior also managed to make birdie on three holes and is tied for 49th going into the second round. 

Play resumes with the second round beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday on the first and 10th tees at El Macero Country Club in El Macero, California.
