ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped the middle game of their Western Athletic Conference series to Sacramento State 11-1 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Sacramento State jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning and added two more in the third on a two-run home run by Jakob Poturnak to build a 5-0 advantage. UTA broke through in the fourth when
Xander McAfee delivered a solo home run to deep left field to cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Hornets pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning and added single runs in both the sixth and seventh to invoke the run rule. Sacramento State finished with 12 hits on the afternoon, while the Mavericks were limited to five hits.
