Sinha maintains lead, Mavs in second at WAC Tournament

MCKINNEY, Texas – Arth Sinha built on his individual lead in the second round of the 2026 Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship as UT Arlington men's golf slipped into second place as a team. The Mavericks posted an 8-over-par 296 on day two, bringing their total score to a 12-over 588, two strokes back of tournament leader Tarleton State.

UTA led the field by three strokes coming into the second round, but an even-par 288 in the second round from Tarleton State saw the Texans leap both the Mavericks and Abilene Christian into first place.

Sinha, meanwhile, turned in another strong round. The UTA freshman entered day two with a two-shot lead over teammate Nicholas Lyman in second place and a 3-under-par 69 in the second round grew Sinha's lead to five.

The Melbourne, Florida-native is now 7-under for the tournament and five strokes clear of Utah Valley's Colby Hutchens and Tarleton State's Alvaro Pastor in second place. Hutchens and Sinha each went 3-under in the second round, the best scores in the field.

The freshman birdied seven holes in the second round, bringing his total for the tournament to 10. Sinha has the best score in the field on par-4's by a wide margin, working to a score of 6-under on such holes, the next closest score being even-par.

Should Sinha hang onto his lead and finish the WAC Championship as the top individual, he will automatically qualify for the NCAA Regionals at least as an individual. If UTA wins the tournament as a team, it will receive the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

Still in the top five individually is Lyman. The freshman carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for fourth place at even-par going into the final day of play. Lyman added four more birdies to his ledger, bringing his total to 11 across both rounds, the high-water mark for the tournament.

Ajay Morris made a big move up the leaderboard after an even-par 72 in the second round. The freshman made par on 12 holes and birdied three. Morris climbed 10 spots into a tie for 11th at 5-over.

Jen Chie Huang and Michael Chevalier rounded out the Maverick lineup. Huang — playing his first round of the tournament after subbing in for Matthew Broder — shot a 9-over 81. Chevalier posted a 10-over 82 and sits in a tie for 31st place at 15-over for the tournament.

The third and final round of the WAC Men's Golf Championship tees off at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Clubs of Stonebridge Ranch - The Dye Course in McKinney. UTA's first tee time is set for 9:40 a.m. Sinha will tee off at 10:20 a.m. as part of the final group.
