Sinha wraps up first round of Bryan Regional

BRYAN, Texas – Day one of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship is in the books with UT Arlington's Arth Sinha wrapping up his first round competing as an individual at the Bryan Regional. The UTA freshman is tied for 67th individually after the first round.

In order to advance, Sinha would have to finish as the low individual that is not on one of the top five finishing teams in the regional. The low five teams and low individual will compete in the championship finals, which run from May 29-June 3 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Sinha carded a 7-over-par 79 in his opening round, featuring three birdies. The freshman birdied two of the first four holes on the back nine to get back to 2-over, but faded in the final five holes. The 16th, 17th and 18th holes all played as some of the hardest of the day, each ranking in the top six for average score above par.

All told, Sinha bogeyed eight holes and double bogeyed the par-3 16th, which played as the fourth-hardest hole of the day at 0.35 strokes over par. The Melbourne, Florida-native also made par on six holes, including at the par-4 18th that played as the hardest of the day as the field averaged 0.45 above par.

Going into the second round, the leading individuals not also on an advancing team are tied for seventh place at 3-under. The players tied at 3-under are UTRGV's Jorge Martin Sampedro, SMU's William Sides and Chattanooga's Camden Braidech.

Due to expected weather on Wednesday, the regional schedule has been adjusted and the field will now attempt to complete the final two rounds on Tuesday.

Sinha is scheduled to tee off at the first hole of Traditions Club at Texas A&M in Bryan at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday. The Freshman will compete with New Mexico's Mesa Falleur and Arkansas Pine Bluff's Cole Wiese. Play will be continuous throughout the day.
