ARLINGTON, Texas – Following the retirement of Roy Rudewick, who dedicated 42 years to UTA Athletics, Gina Giammanco has been promoted to Head Athletic Trainer.
 
A Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, Giammanco earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and master's degree in exercise science from the University of Louisiana Monroe. She joined the UTA athletic training staff in 2005 after serving as graduate assistant athletic trainer at ULM.
 
During her tenure at UTA, Giammanco has served as the athletic trainer for several Maverick programs, including:
 
Softball & Volleyball: January 2005 – May 2016
Women's Basketball: November 2005 – 2006
Volleyball & Women's Golf: August 2016 – present
 
Over the past two decades, Giammanco has played an integral role in the care and development of Maverick student-athletes while helping mentor future athletic trainers. Most recently, she served as UTA's Associate Head Athletic Trainer.

Giammanco is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association (SWATA) and Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association (TSATA). She was named UTA's Clinical Preceptor of the Year in 2019-20 and served as the primary athletic trainer for UTA Volleyball during the Mavericks' 2024 Western Athletic Conference championship season.
