Comer Headshot

Chad Comer

Former UTA baseball standout Chad Comer is in his first season as an assistant coach for the program in 2020 after being hired in August of 2019.

In his first season as hitting coach in 2020, Comer's presence was seen immediately.  In the shortened season, Connor Aube finished the season with a hit in each game he played in, giving him a 15 game hitting streak for the season. Two Mavericks landed on the D1Baseball Top Senior Hitters list.  Zac Cook finished #8 on the list, while Andrew Keefer finished #43. Cook also landed on the D1Baseball top second baseman list, ranked the 27th best in the country after slashing .321/.500/.623.

Comer spent the 2019 season as a hitting instructor at the Rangers' Arizona complex. He spent the three seasons prior with the Dominican Summer League Rangers as a hitting coach. Comer originally joined the Texas organization as a coach on the Hickory staff in 2015, when they were South Atlantic League Champions.

After taking over as hitting coach for the DSL Rangers, the team finished in the Top 10 in the league in batting average, walks, on-base percentage, runs batted in, home runs and runs scored.

The former UTA standout played two seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization, concluding his playing career with High-A Lynchburg in 2012. He was drafted by the Braves in the 29th round of the 2011 June Draft following four successful seasons with the Mavs.

During his four-year career at UTA, the Mansfield native was a member of the 2010 Johnny Bench Award Watch List (top collegiate catcher), a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and a four-year starter for the Mavericks, finishing his college career in the top 10 of several UT Arlington career categories.
