MAVERICK BATS AWAKEN IN 11-3 VICTORY OVER INDIANS

ARLINGTON, Texas...The University of Texas at Arlington offense awakened from a mini-slump as they pounded out 15 hits in taking the rubber game from Louisiana-Monroe 11-3 Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Maverick (28-19, 16-5 SLC) bats awakened for the first time in the fourth inning as Chris Taylor singled through the left side with one out and went to second on a wild pitch. Ryan Roberts followed with a run producing single back through the middle. After Roberts was picked off first, Hunter Pence doubled down the right field line. Scott Williams followed with a RBI single through the right side. Darrell Preston singled through the right side moving Williams to third. Robby Deevers collected the sixth consecutive hit of the inning up the middle scoring Williams and chasing ULM starter Ryan Schwabe from the game. Aaron Batlle reached on a fielding error by first baseman Ben Jones and advanced to second when second baseman Jack Skaggs attempt to get Preston at the plate got passed the catcher and allowed Deevers to score on the play. Dustin Bozarth finished off the scoring by plating Batlle with a single to center field.

UTA continued to score in the fifth inning as Kasey Baker started the inning with a double down the left field line. Baker went to third on a wild pitch and scored when catcher Joey Wolfe's throw went into left field. The second run of the inning came on Roberts' conference leading 13th home run to right field.

The Indians (22-19, 10-10 SLC) got on the board in the sixth inning Wolfe started things off with a single to center field. Andy Chance followed with a run producing double into the right center field gap. Willie Rickard kept the inning going with a RBI single up the middle. Daniel Raymond moved Rickard to third with a single to left center, but was thrown out attempting to go to second as Preston took the throw from Deevers and threw a strike to Taylor at second. Lane LaBorde plated the final run with a groundout to the shortstop.

The scoring continued for the Mavs in the seventh inning as Baker singled up the middle. Taylor followed with a single off the pitcher and Baker went to third as Eddie Hymel's throw got passed the first baseman. Roberts plated Baker with a deep sacrifice fly to the 400ft mark in straight away center field. Pence followed with a two-run home run to left field, his fifth of the season.

Charlie Coffey (6-2) took the win as he went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Schwabe (3-3) took the loss by allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Baker, Taylor, Roberts, Pence and Williams each collected two hits for the Mavericks. Roberts knocked in three runs and Pence drove in two.

The Mavericks return to action on Wednesday evening, April 30, as they step out of Southland Conference action to take on the Patriots of Dallas Baptist. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
