ARLINGTON, Texas - After two straight days where the pitching staffs from both teams held the opponents at bay, Dallas Baptist exploded offensively in routing Texas-Arlington 10-3 Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
DBU (9-4) put the game away in the first inning as they sent nine men to the plate and pushed across four runs in the inning. Drew Holder and Ben Zobrist each collected RBI hits in the inning and Jamey Knight plated two more runs with a single through the right side.
The Patriots added four more runs in the third inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate and collected five hits. Sean Burgess, Drew Noss and Holder collected RBI base hits in the inning, while Cody Montgomery was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Ryan Olivo drew a bases loaded walk.
UTA (4-6) got a run on the board in the third inning as Aaron Cook recorded a bunt base hit for his first collegiate hit. Kasey Baker followed with a double to right field and Aaron Batlle drove in the run with a single through the right side.
A Ned Yost sacrifice fly in the fourth and an Olivo RBI single in the sixth were the final two runs of the game for DBU.
The Mavericks second run of the game came in the sixth inning when Darrell Preston connected on his first home run of the season to right field.
UTA pushed across another run in the seventh inning when Daniel Macha hit an RBI single to center field.
Bric Steed (0-1) took the loss after allowing eight earned runs on nine hits in 2.2 innings of work. Randall Taylor (2-0) picked up the victory by surrendering two earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Mavericks return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Oklahoma. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
