SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington Lady Mavericks used extra innings to slip by Texas-San Antonio 2-1 in Southland Conference softball action Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. UTA improved to 7-12-1 and 3-2 in the SLC.
The Roadrunners scored first for the third consecutive game, plating one run in the home half of the second. After a Jennifer Davis single to left and a stolen base, Nelson knocked a run producing single to left to put UTSA in front, 1-0.
UTA answered in the top of the fifth as Beverly Rowan connected for her first home run of the season, tying the game at one run apiece.
The squads battled but remained deadlocked until the ninth frame. After a Autumn Petrino drew a lead off walk, the sophomore crossed the plate on a RBI double to left by Amanda Haney.
Lauren Hebert earned her first collegiate win after scattering seven hits, striking out eight and giving up only one earned run in 9.0 innings of work.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Saturday, March 13 for a three-game SLC series at Northwestern State. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Demon Diamond in Natchitoches, La.
