NEUMAN'S HOMER GIVES FROGS 4-3 VICTORY OVER MAVS

April 14, 2004

Box Score

FORT WORTH, Texas - After making a great catch over the fence to end the top of the seventh inning, TCU first baseman Chris Neuman led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to right field to break a tie game and give the Horned Frogs a 4-3 victory over Texas-Arlington Wednesday evening at Lupton Stadium.

TCU (20-14) got on the board in the first inning as Chad Huffman hit a two-out single through the left side and advanced to third on a wild pitch. UTA starter Michael Garza was able to stikeout Shelby Ford with what should have been the final out of the inning if it wasn't for the second wild pitch of the inning allowing the runner to score.

The Mavericks (22-15) tied the game up in the second inning as Dane Ryan drew a two-out base on balls and stole second base. Daniel Lenihan plated the run with a double to left field.

UTA took the lead in the third ining as Kasey Baker doubled into the gap in right center field and scored on Darrell Preston's single through the left side.

The Frogs pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the home half of the third as German Duran and Huffman drew back-to-balk walks. Ford followed with a groundball to first and Preston's attemtp to start the double play failed allowing a run to score and Huffman moved to third. On the next pitch, Ford took off for second and was caught stealing allowing the go ahead run to score.

The Mavs came back to tie the game in the fifth inning as Batlle started things with his 14th double of the season down the right field line. Still standing there with two outs, Nelson's shot to shortstop went right through the wickets of Duran, allowing Batlle to score the tieing run.

Batlle led the offense with two hits, while Preston extended his hit streak to eight games.

Mike Snapp (1-2) took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in three innings of work. Chad Underwood (4-3) got the win by allowing two hits in 3.2 innings of work. Tim McGough earned his first save of the season by forcing a game ending double play.

The Mavericks return to action on Friday, April 16, when they open up a three-game series with Lamar. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
