NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Freshman Courtni Anderson singled to plate Amanda Haney in the top of the seventh frame as the Lady Mavericks of Texas-Arlington edged past host Stephen F. Austin 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference softball action. UTA completed the doubleheader sweep with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.

After Haney's one-out double in the seventh, Anderson would single to plate the eventual game-winning run.

Jill Garro (13-11) earned the win for the Lady Mavs after striking out seven in her seventh complete game shutout of the season.

SFA's Crissy Autry (12-15) was tagged with the loss after striking out nine and allowing only three hits in a complete game effort.

Senior April Jones sparked the Lady Mavs in game two, leading the offense with two hits.

After falling behind 1-0, UTA tied the game in the fourth. Jenna Fortune picked up a lead off walk and advanced to second as Dee Jay Nelson picked up a walk just one batter later. After a ground out advanced the runners Jones singled to plate Fortune and knot the game at one.

Back-to-back walks in the sixth and a Nelson single loaded the bases for the Lady Mavs in the top of the frame. UTA managed only one run as SFA's Traci Moore pitched her way out of the jam, but one was enough as the Lady Mavs held on for the 2-1 win.

Freshman Lauren Hebert (8-7) was touched for only four hits and one run (unearned) while striking out five in the win.

Moore (2-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing one run on one hit in two-thirds of an inning.

Texas-Arlington will look for its first three-game sweep as the squad's battle in the rubber game Sunday at 1 p.m.
