ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore Morgan Rogers tallied nine kills and 22 digs to lead Texas-Arlington past Southeastern Louisiana, 30-23, 30-20, 30-26, Friday evening at Texas Hall. The victory snapped the Mavericks' seven-match losing streak.
Texas-Arlington (4-22, 3-14 SLC) jumped out to a 20-12 lead on the strength of two kills each by sophomore Ellen Murray and senior Ashley Van Antwerp. The Mavericks closed the game out 30-23, with the help of three kills from Rogers.
In game two, Southeastern Louisiana (6-21, 2-15 SLC) held close at 12-10, with the help of two kills from Erin Miles. Senior Melissa Marek then proceeded to take over game two, tallying five kills in an 18-10 run to close the game out, 30-20.
The Mavericks again jumped out to a big lead at 20-14 in game three, and cruised the rest of the way, taking the game, 30-26.
Van Antwerp led the Mavericks with 11 kills along with Marek at 11. Sophomore Emily Nedderman dished out a game-high 40 assists to go along with seven kills. Junior Ashley Smith chipped in with 13 digs.
Texas-Arlington will be back in action Saturday, when they take on Nicholls State in the season finale. First-serve is set for 7 p.m., with the match being designated as Senior/Parent's Night.
