CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Jennifer Cummings held the Lady Mavericks to just three hits as the Islanders handed UTA a 5-0 loss Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Islander Invitational.
With the loss UTA falls to 4-7 overall while the Islanders improve to 11-1.
The host Islanders intiated the scoring in the home half of the third after a walk and two infield singles loaded the bases. TAMU-CC's Megan Hansen drove in two runs with a single and Nikkis Neash follwed with a single to left, driving in the final run of the frame to give the Islanders a 3-0 advantage.
UTA threatened in the fifth after Katie Singleton earned a two out walk and Katie Jones followed with a single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Dee Jay Nelson earned a free pass to load the bases, but the Lady Mavs threat ended as relief pitcher Sarah Pauley enticed a pop up to end the inning.
The Islanders added two runs on two hits in the sixth to make the final count 5-0.
Jill Garro (2-4) was tagged with the loss for the Lady Mavs after allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits in five innings of work.
Katie Jones paced the UTA offense with two hits.
Texas-Arlington will open Southland Conference action next weekend in a three-game set at McNeese State. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
