LAKE CHARLES, La. - For the second straight game the Lady Mavericks rallied behind the strong pitching of sophomore Lauren Hebert as Texas-Arlington shutout McNeese State 2-0 in the rubber game of the Southland Conference series.
After a two hour rain delay, UTA (6-8, 2-1) struck first with a run in the third inning as Jenna Fortune singled, stole second and scored on a Cowgirl error.
The Lady Mavericks added an insurance run in the fifth as Amanda Swofford connected for her first career home run.
Hebert improved to 3-2 and tossed her second consecutive complete game shutout. The sophomore allowed just four hits in the contest.
Jessica Denham (1-4) was tagged with the loss for the Cowgirls after giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Texas-Arlington will return to action Wednesday, March 2 when it plays host to national powerhouse Texas at Allan Saxe Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
