DEMONS USE SIX RUN FOURTH TO COMPLETE SWEEP OF UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas - Northwestern State used a six run fourth inning to hand the Lady Mavericks a 11-2 defeat Sunday afternoon and sweep the Southland Conference series at Allan Saxe Field. The Demons claimed Saturday's doubleheader by scores of 6-2 and 4-3.

UTA falls to 8-15 overall and 4-5 in the league while Northwestern State improves to 18-11 overall and 5-1.

NSU pushed its advantage to 10 runs with a Nicole Martin bases clearing double off the wall in right center.

The Demons batted around in the fourth, plating six runs on six hits to put the game out of reach for the Lady Mavs. Three straight singles loaded the bases with no outs. Sarina Noack worked a RBI walk to plate the first run of the frame before Martin followed with a two-RBI single up the middle. Shay Hunt greated UTA reliever Elizabeth Fuentes with a double to the fence in left field that cleared the bases. Amanda Glenn knocked a run-producing single before Fuentes induced a ground out to stop the bleeding.

NSU used back-to-back home runs from Hunt and Margaret Patterson to take an early 2-0 lead after just a half inning of play.

The Lady Mavericks answered in the home half of the frame, plating an unearned run to cut the deficit in half. After lead off batter April Clougherty was hit by a Loni Rasberry pitch and was sacrificed to second, she stole third and crossed the plate on a throwing error by the NSU catcher.

Patterson conncected for her second RBI single of the day in the top of the third, plating Hunt who doubled with two outs.

UTA rallied in the fifth as Clougherty and Dee Jay Nelson singled to put runners at first and second. A Katie Jones bloop single to left plated Clougherty before Jenna Fortune earned a free pass to load the bases with two outs. NSU starter Loni Rasberry struck out Kathleen Bradshaw to end the threat.

Loni Rasberry (8-3) held the Lady Mavs to just five hits in a complete game effort.

Lauren Hebert (3-6) was tagged with the loss for UTA after allowing eight earned runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Clougherty paced the UTA offense with two hits.

Texas-Arlington will return to action Wednesday when it travels to Houston for a 5 p.m. doubleheader with the Cougars.
