ARLINGTON, Texas - Longhorn ace Cat Osterman held Texas-Arlington to just two baserunners and struck out 14 as No. 4 Texas edged past the Lady Mavericks 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA starter Jill Garro (2-6) held the Longhorns scoreless through three complete innings before Texas' Christina Gwyn singled up the middle to plate Desiree Williams who reached base on a lead off walk to start the fourth.
Amanda Swofford became the first UTA baserunner when she was hit by an Osterman pitch in the home half of the fifth. Swofford was stranded as Courtni Anderson struck out to end the inning.
April Clougherty was the lone Lady Maverick to record a hit as she dropped a bunt in front of the plate and just beat the throw to first, but was thrown out on the following play on an attempted stolen base.
Garro held the Longhorns to just two hits and one run in a complete game effort as she fell to 2-6 on the season. Osterman improved to 5-2 overall while striking out 14 hitters and holding UTA to one hit.
