WACO, Texas - Baylor's Cristin Vitek held the Lady Mavericks to just one hit in six innings as the 10th-ranked Lady Bears dropped Texas-Arlington 8-0 Tuesday evening at Getterman Stadium.
The Lady Bears jumped in front early after a Tessa Lynam double and Kim Wilmoth single drove in two runs in the first. BU added three in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Lady Mavs.
UTA loaded the bases in the sixth after an error, a walk and a Dee Jay Nelson single, but the Lady Mavericks couldn't capitalize as Vitek got Autumn Petrino to strike out to end the inning.
Jill Garro (3-7) was tagged with the loss for the Lady Mavs after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing eight runs on 15 hits.
Vitek (7-2) held UTA to just one hit and struck out five in four innings of work. Chelsi Lake and Stephanie Pomes led BU's offense with three hits apiece.
Texas-Arlington will return to action this weekend when it plays host to Northwestern State for a three-game Southland Conference series at Allan Saxe Field. First pitch in Saturday's doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday's finale is slated for 1 p.m.
