SOONERS POWER TO 11-6 VICTORY OVER UTA

April 19, 2005

Box Score

NORMAN, Oklahoma - Ryan Rohlinger's home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Sooners their first lead of the game as Oklahoma scored nine unanswered runs to defeat Texas-Arlington 11-6 Tuesday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The loss snapped the Mavs six-game win streak against the Sooners.

The Mavs (21-20) got on the board in the first inning as Nathan Warrick drew a leadoff walk. Josh McSpadden followed with a grounder to first, but the attempt to get the speedy Warrick at second was too late and everyone was safe. Ryan Nelson plated both runners with a double to right center.

OU (21-15) tied the game up in the second inning as Kody Kaiser started the inning with a single up the middle and scored on Eric Thornton's opposite field home run to left field.

UTA pushed four runs across in the third inning as Warrick started the inning with a double down the left field line extending his hit streak to 12-games before scoring on a McSpadden single to right field. With one out, Boomer Welles singled through the left side. Daniel Macha put down a sacrifice bunt to third, but the ball was thrown down the right field line allowing one run to score and putting runners on second and third. Cary Nelson made the Sooners pay with a two-run single through the left side.

The lead was short lived as the Sooners tied the game up with a four-spot of their own in the home half of the inning. Thornton started the scoring with an RBI single to right field and Russell Raley had a sacrifice fly to right field. Jackson Williams delivered the big blow with a two-run shot to left center field.

Kaiser followed up Rohlinger's home run with a solo shot of his own before Freddy Rodriguez delivered an RBI single later in the inning.

OU reached double figures in the seventh inning as Kaiser hit an RBI triple to right center after Rohlinger reached on catcher's interference.

Dillon Gee (4-4) took the loss after he allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits in 3.1 innings of work. Will Savage (4-3) picked up the victory after limiting the Mavs to no runs on three hits in four innings of work.

Warrick and Cary Nelson led the Mavs offense with three hits apiece. Cary Nelson and Ryan Nelson each drove in two and Warrick scored a pair of runs. Kaiser and Williams led the Sooners with four hits and Thornton drove in three.

The Mavs return to action this weekend as they open a three-game series against McNeese State at Clay Gould Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
