MONROE, La. - The University of Texas at Arlington softball squad completed a Southland Conference sweep of Louisiana-Monroe with a 7-4 victory at Lady Indian Field on Sunday afternoon.
UTA (12-19, 8-9) never trailed in the contest, scoring one in the first and never looking back. Back-to-back walks by ULM starter J. Braley came back to haunt the Lady Indians as Jenna Fortune singled to plate UTA's first run.
The Lady Mavs continued the scoring in the second as Braley again allowed a lead off walk. Consecutive run-producing singles by Autumn Petrino and Jenna Fortune gave UTA a 3-0 advantage.
April Clougherty worked a walk to open the fifth and scored on a Petrino single to right field. Petrino moved to second on a Fortune single, her third of the day, and both runners scored on an Amanda Swofford double to the gap in left center.
ULM closed the gap in the fifth with a Taylor three-run home run, and added one run in the sixth but UTA added one in the seventh for the 7-4 final.
Jill Garro earned her third win of the series, improving to 7-10 on the season. Garro was touched for seven hits and four runs while striking out seven. Fortune led the offense with three hits and two RBIs and Petrino added two hits and scored three runs for UTA.
The Lady Mavericks will return to action Wednesday when they play host to Baylor. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
