SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State improved its league record to 14-4 and remains atop the Southland Conference after dropping Texas-Arlington 3-1 Friday evening at Bobcat Field. With the loss the Lady Mavericks fall to 12-21 overall and 8-10 in the league.
It was a pitchers duel in San Marcos Friday as each starter did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. UTA's Courtni Anderson was the lone base runner through three complete, reaching on a walk in the third.
The Lady Mavericks broke open a scoreless game in the fourth as Kristin Moore became just the second UTA baserunner, reaching on a throwing errory by the Bobcats pitcher Katie Ann Trahan. The Mavs capitalized on the error as Katie Jones connected for a run-producing single to plate Moore and give UTA a 1-0 advantage.
Trahan got the run back in the home half of the frame, driving in Amy Hromadka who beat out an infield single to lead off the inning.
An error and a hit by pitch led to first and second for the 'Cats to open the fifth. Lauren Griffith singled through the right side to plate one run before Hromodka singled to load the bases with just one out. After a line out, Trahan earned her second RBI of the evening as she worked a two out walk to give TXST a 3-1 advantage.
Trahan (17-14) earned the win for the 'Cats, tossing her third one-hitter of the season. Jill Garro (7-11) was tagged with the loss for UTA after allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits in a complete game effort.
Jones connected for the lone UTA hit while Hromadka recorded two hits for the Bobcats.
The squads will close out the series with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
