HONOLULU, Hawaii - Jodi Norton jacked two home runs leading No. 25 Bbrigham Young to a 5-2 victory over Texas-Arlington at the Paradise Classic Saturday.
Summer Tobias (3-0) again pitched tough for BYU, now 4-1 on the season.
UTA falls to 1-3 and will face SLC-rival Texas State Saturday at 8 p.m. Central Time.
The Cougars never trailed in the game and tallied 10 hits in the contest. The left-handed tandem of Krystle Chamberlain and Jennifer Whiteley went a combined 5-for-6 from the plate with two runs and one RBI.
After leaving two runners on base in the first inning, BYU scored its first run in the second on Norton's lead-off homer over the left field fence. The Cougars threatened to extend the lead but were unable to take advantage of a bases-loaded, one-out situation.
In the fourth, BYU struck again when Chamberlain laid down a bunt single, stole second and came around to score on a Whiteley RBI single.
An inning later Norton struck again. Her second round-tripper of the game was a towering two-run shot to left-center. The home run was Norton's third of the five game tournament.
The Cougars added their fifth run on a RBI single by Tracee Hoch in the fifth innin off losing pitcher Laura Jones (1-1).
