IRVING, Texas - UTA use a combined one-hitter from sophomore pitchers Laura Jones and Elizabeth Fuentes to defeat Prairie View A&M 1-0 in the opening game of the 2006 UTA Invitational here Friday.

The tournament was shortened to one day after inclement weather loomed over the Metroplex Friday and sleet and rain were forcasted for Saturday.

The win was the fourth straight for UTA (5-4) and stretched the scoreless inning streak by the pitching staff to 17 innings.

The only run of the game came with one out in the seventh when pinch-hitter Kristin Moore single over the second baseman Sheena Robertson's head and allowed Courtni Anderson to score from second base.

Fuentes picked up the win after another solid outing from Jones who shutout the Panthers over five innings.

UTA was scheduled to face Wichita State later in the day.
