UT Arlington scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning, including the game-winning run on an error by Southeastern Louisiana second baseman Jenaye Zeringue with two outs to allow April Clougherty to score from third base to rally for a 3-2 victory over the Lady Lions in Southland Conference softball play here Saturday.
UTA (15-9, 7-1) mustered just three hits through the first six innings before racking up for hits in the final at-bat for the win.
Senior Jill Garro (9-5) scattered six hits for the complete-game decision. She allowed both SLU runs in the top of the fifth inning as Amber Gentry broke the scoreless tie scoring from third base after Michelle Lemons grounded out to Garro, but raced home to beat the throw from Deejay Nelson. Later in the inning, Rebecca De la Garza singled down the right field line to score Amy Ford for a 2-0 lead.
Rachael Schwartz (7-7) was the tough-luck loser for the Lady Lions.
Game three of the series is Sunday at noon.
