UT Arlington pounded a season-high tying 13 hits to lift the Mavericks to a convincing 10-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA (16-9, 8-1) had five players collect multiple hits in the game. Leftfielder Katie Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored an three RBI. Jenna Fortune, Amanda Swofford, Deejay Nelson and Courtni Anderson each had two hits.
"I thought we made some adjustments after the first game," said UTA Head Softball Coach Debbie Hedrick. "We were getting under the ball a little too much in the first game, but we hitting the gaps and were able to get some shots off their pitchers."
The win was the seventh in eight games for the Mavericks who will try and sweep the series tomorrow at noon at Allan Saxe Field.
SELU drops to 7-16 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
UTA jumped out to a 2- lead in the second inning when Amanda Brown grabbed her first hit of the season - a two-run double to score Katie Jones and Courtni Anderson.
UTA added four runs in the third inning off six hits. April Clougherty's two-out double scored Katie Jones and Courtni Anderson for a 6-0 lead.
UTA added four more runs in the fourth inning off reliever Jamie Militello. Fortune had an RBI single and Jones hit a two-run single to highlight the inning.
Sophomore Laura Jones (5-2) won her third straight start, allowing three hits in five innings.
The three-game series concludes Sunday at noon at Allan Saxe Field.
