Sophomore righthander Elizabeth Fuentes allowed one earned run over seven innings as UT-Arlington rallied to defeat McNeese State 3-1 at Allan Saxe Field Sunday afternoon.
UTA (9-6, 3-0) swept the three-game series while McNeese State falls to 6-12, 0-3.
Fuentes (2-0) allowed two hits in the first inning, including an RBI single by Jana Jones to score Christina Allen to score from second base for an early 1-0 lead.
UTA tied the game in the third. Amanda Swofford singled with one out, advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored on a Dee Jay Nelson through the right side.
An inning later, the Mavericks took advantage of a Callie Schiro error at third base allowing both Courtney Anderson and Brittany Stevens to score for a 3-1 lead.
Fuentes kept McNeese State handcuffed with just two singles the rest of the game - one in the fifth and one in the seventh inning.
UTA returns to action Tuesday when they Houston in a doubleheader. First pitch is at 3 p.m. The Mavericks return to conference play Saturday at Nicholls State.
