HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Stephanie Moseley singled to left center to score Kendra Spivey from third base with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift Sam Houston State to a 4-3 victory over UT Arlington in college softball Sunday afternoon.
The tenth inning rally capped off a comeback that saw Sam Houston State trailing 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning before scoring three unearned run in the bottom of the fifth after two Maverick errors.
With one out, Tanya Hooser singled and pinch hitter Amanda Collier reached base on an error by Jenna Fortune. After Casey Everitt grounded out, Spivey hit a two-run single to center field, scoring pinch runner Laura Diehl and Hooser to trim the lead to 3-2.
Sam Houston tied the game when Spivey scored on an error by Courtni Anderson to tie the game at 3-3.
Jill Garro (11-7) scattered seven hits and allowed one earned run to take the loss. Shalayne Blythe (9-10) got the complete-game win with seven hits, four walks and six strikeouts.
UTA grab the early lead with a run in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Autumn Petrino reached base on an error. Walks to Deejay Nelson and Jenna Fotune loaded the bases. Katie Jones hit a grounder to third base to score Petrino for a 1-0 lead.
In the next inning, April Clougherty opened the inning with a single and later scored on a single by Amanda Swofford to left center for a 2-0 lead.
In the iftfh inning, UTA made it 3-0 when Courtni Anderson singled to center field to score Petrino from second base.
UTA returns to Allan Saxe Field for a 10-game homestand beginning with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
