ARLINGTON, Texas - The Texas-Arlington women's tennis was well-represented on the 2006 All-Southland Conference team on Wednesday as they placed six athletes on the squad.
Junior Monika Peciulionyte was selected to the first-team in singles and doubles, while junior Simri van Rooyen, junior Marissa Brown and senior Anete Rozkalne were all selected to the first team in doubles. Freshman Klara Jagosova and Rozkalne were both named to the second team for singles, and Jagosova teamed up with junior Daniela Novakova to garner second-team honors in doubles.
One consistency Texas-Arlington had during the season was their doubles play. All three duos finished with winning records. Junior Daniela Novokova and freshman Klara Jagosova teamed up to go 13-5 at the number one position. They won 10 of their last 11 matches of the regular season. Juniors Simri van Rooyen and Monika Peciulionyte combined for a 13-4 record and they won their last 10 matches of the regular season. Junior Marissa Brown and the lone senior on the team Anete Rozkalne teamed up to go 12-4, and also hold a spotless 7-0 record in SLC play. They also won their last 10 matches of the regular season.
In singles play, four Lady Mavericks finished the regular season with double-digit wins. Jagosova led the way by garnering a 13-6 record at the number one position. She also knocked off Baylor's #29 Carolin Walter in the fall. She started the spring season ranked 49th in the nation. Peciulionyte ended with a 12-4 overall record and a perfect 9-0 record in SLC play. Both Rozkalne and Van Rooyen tallied 10-8 records.
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action Saturday when they take part in the Southland Conference Tournament. Texas-Arlington will take on the winner of Lamar and Louisiana-Monroe. First-serve for the semifinal matchup is set for 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
