Box Score
Senior pitcher Jill Garro struck out her first seven batters and went on to fan 11 as UT Arlington shutout Louisiana-Monroe 2-0 in Southland Conference softball play at Allan Saxe Field Saturday afternoon.
UTA (22-12, 11-3) got all the run support they would need for Garro in the third inning when catcher Courtni Anderson lined a pitch off starter Sammie Dillard (9-7) that grazed over the top of the right-field fence for a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Deejay Nelson hit a single to righgt field allowing Autumn Petrino from second for the only other run of the game.
Garro (12-7), who tossed a two-hitter against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in her last start, was impressive hitting the outside corner to catch the Indians off balance. She retired the first 13 batters she faced before Courtney Tuggle singled through the leftside of the infield.
Game two of the series is at 3 p.m. today and the final game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
