Final Stats
ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington recorded its first Southland Conference series sweep with its 3-1 win over Northwestern State on Sunday at Allan Saxe Field. Junior left fielder Katie Jones led the Mavs going 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. UTA improves its record to 16-10 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
With the bases loaded in the top of the first UTA's freshman pitcher Heather Fortenberry stuck out back-to-back batters to end the Demon threat. Jones put the Mavericks on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a lead off homer, her sixth of the season, to give UTA the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second UTA drove its lead to two with a single from Jones to center to score Brittany Washington who reached on a walk. Catcher Amanda Brown scored the Mavs third run in the bottom of the third on a single to center field from short stop Amanda Swofford.
The Demons lone run came in the top of the sixth on a single from Lyndsey Gorski to cut the Mavs lead to two (3-1). UTA held Northwestern State in the seventh for its six conference win.
Fortenberry recorded the win with 5.3 innings of work striking out eight Demon batters. Amanda Glenn picked up her second loss for the weekend dropping her record to 5-8.
UTA is scheduled for a non-conference double header with Texas Tech in Lubbock on Tuesday.
