FROGS PULL AWAY IN VICTORY OVER MAVS

March 14, 2007

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - Brian Kervin's two-run single inside the bag at first base capped off a three-run sixth inning as TCU took the lead for good and won going away in handing UT Arlington an 11-5 defeat Wednesday afternoon in Fort Worth.

The rally started with one out as Andrew Walker singled and Matt Vern followed with a double down the left-field line. After Clint Arnold was hit by a pitch, Ben Carruthers drove in a run on groundout to a diving Jerry Fisher to tie the game and set up Kervin's game winner.

UTA (9-11) jumped on the board in the first as Brock Wilson started the game with a double to right right center and Daniel Rieder followed with a single to left center. Mitch Putman drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to the fence in left field.

TCU (12-6) answered back in the bottom of the inning as Keith Conlon collected a two-out single into the hole at short and came around to score on an Austin Adams triple off the right-field fence. It marked the fifth-straight game the Mavs have allowed a run in the first inning.

The Frogs offense was back at it in the third as a pair of singles set up Adams' bloop double into no-man's land in left field to score one and Matt McGuirk followed with an RBI single into the hole at short.

The Mavs got the equalizer in the fourth as David McLeod doubled just inside the line at third, Ben Burum walked and Kyle Rudy singled to short to load the bases. David Newby drove in McLeod with a single through the left side and Wilson delivered a fielder's choice RBI to second.

UTA regained the lead in the fifth inning as Putman delivered his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field.

The Frogs broke the game open when Matt Vern delivered an RBI fielder's choice, Carruthers delivered a two-run single and Kervin delivered an RBI single.

TCU scored again in the eighth as Walker delivered a solo home run to left field.

UTA pushed a run across in the ninth as RJ Harris drew a pinch-hit one-out walk and went to third on Wilson's single to left center before scoring on a passed ball.

Tyler Lockwood (1-0) picked up the victory after allowing one run on three hits in 3.1 innings. Jeffrey Nollen (0-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in 1.2 innings.

The Mavs open Southland Conference action Friday, March 16, as they travel to take on Lamar in a three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
