NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A two-run homer in the seventh inning lifted Stephen F. Austin past UT Arlington in the SLC series finale on Sunday. The Ladyjacks took game three 3-2 over the Mavs.
UTA moves to 18-11 on the season and 8-4 in conference action while SFA moves to 8-18 overall and 4-2 in conference games. Freshman Casey Clifton (1-1) took the loss for the Mavs, her first of the season, in .2 innings of work.
The Ladyjacks jumped on the board in the first inning with a single run for the early 1-0 lead, but UTA answered with two runs in the third to lead 2-1.
Center fielder April Clougherty opened up the third inning by drawing the walk and advanced to second on a single from left fielder Katie Jones. Senior Dee Jay Nelson hit a double down the left field line to score Clougherty and Jones.
With two outs in the seventh, SFA's Crystal Dahlquest doubled to put the tying run in scoring position when Briana Bishop hit a home run to left center to end the game.
The Mavs will continue SLC action on Saturday when they play host to Sam Houston State for a double header starting at 1 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
