HAMMOND, La. - UT Arlington took game three from Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 on Sunday. Right fielder Kristin Moore led the Mavs going 2-for-3 and one run. With the win UTA improves to 31-13 overall and 16-5 in SLC play, while the Lady Lions fall to 27-26 and 10-16.
In 5.2 innings on the mound freshman Heather Fortenberry gave up two runs on four hits. Rachel Ray went the distance for Southeastern giving up three runs on nine hits.
Brooke Lockhart hit a two-run homer in the Lions half of the first inning for the early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, designated player Samantha Chumchal cut the Loins lead in half, scoring Brittany Washington who reached on a double to left center.
Right fielder Kristin Moore knotted it up in the top of the fifth off a single from center fielder April Clougherty. One batter later, shortstop Amanda Swofford hit a single up the middle to plate Clougherty and give UTA the 3-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Lions threatened to score with two outs and the bases loaded, when Allyson McCubbins flew out to center field to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning Jones gave up one hit, but scattered three to end the game.
The Mavs will back in action on Wednesday as they welcome the Mean Green of North Texas for a single game starting at 6 p.m.
